About Us

Vision and Mission

Our Mission is, “To be an example that another world is possible, through helping people find personal peace and healing, and live consciously in harmony with each other and mother earth.”

Our values are to; to live and work in community, assist in the regeneration of mother nature, to be a place of healing, to follow permaculture principles and be a place of personal learning and growth.

Rhiannon Community was founded in 2008, by Helen Bicknell and Nicky Rothon, two British women that fell in love with Ecuador. It is situated in the Andes Mountain range at an altitude of 2,650m. They bought a treeless barren piece of land in a dry arid area dreaming that one day it would be green and flourishing again.

The History

The community was founded on 4 basic principles which have guided the growth of the project ever since:

  • To be an example of sustainable living through implementing practices such as rainwater collection, grey water recycling, off grid energy use, eco building & waste recycling. To regenerate the land through reforestation and produce our own food through organic farming practices.
  • To live in Community with likeminded people, enjoy cross cultural exchange, share facilities, cook and eat together.
  • To be a place of education, opening the doors to visitors, volunteers and students etc. enabling them to gain hands on experience in alternative ways of living.
  • To be a place of healing and help people find their personal purpose in life.

The Residents

Currently there are 4 adult residents, 2 British and 2 Ecuadorian, and 2 children permanently living at Rhiannon. We hope to welcome more permanent residents soon, and we are currently working on more accommodation to facilitate this. We also have a lot of dogs, cats and 2 donkeys in our family.
